A new poll suggests Kamloops Centre MLA Peter Milobar has the greatest chance to defeat the NDP in the next election if he becomes the next leader of the Conservative Party of B.C.
The Mainstreet Research survey of British Columbians found Milobar has the greatest chance of forming a majority Conservative government. While some of the other hopefuls could beat the NDP, the results found that they likely would end up in a minority situation.
The poll of 1,275 BC residents 18 years of age or older, was conducted by landline and cell phone between April 9 and April 13.
Among those surveyed, NDP and Premier David Eby still hold a lead over the Conservatives, but it is shrinking.
“BC NDP leads with 32% among all voters, ahead of the BC Conservatives at 28% with Trevor Halford as leader (interim),” said Mainstreet.
“The Greens have softened to 12%, while OneBC has risen to 9%. With 17% undecided, the race remains highly competitive heading into the next election. Compared to March, the Conservative baseline has dropped 4.1 points while NDP support holds steady.”
Milobar is one of the frontrunners in the Conservative race, along with political commentator Caroline Elliott.
