Milobar and Elliott frontrunners for BC Conservative leadership

A “clear two-horse race” has emerged between candidates vying to become the next leader of the BC Conservatives, a new poll says.

Caroline Eliott and Peter Milobar are tied at 21 per cent support among current party members and those who intend to take out a membership by the mid-April cutoff date, Mainstreet Research says.

However, the winner will likely be determined by which candidate draws the most second- and third-place preferences cast by party members in the preferential balloting system.

“Without a clear frontrunner at this stage, the race will be determined by second and third choice votes, how undecided voters choose, and new recruits,’ says Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Research.

Milobar is a sitting three-term BC Conservative MLA from Kamloops, while Elliott worked with the Liberal government of Gordon Campbell and has run her own political consultancy.
