Peter Milobar is in the top tier of B.C. Conservative leadership candidates, by most reckonings, and happens to be the party’s finance critic.

So his scrutiny of the NDP government’s budget deserves attention, given that he could wind up being the next premier of B.C.

It’s a fortunate combination of circumstances for him. He wants to lead a party that was one seat from winning last time. Even after thoroughly botching their first year in opposition, they could easily be viable in the next election, which could come sooner than scheduled.

Now he gets a chance to break out of the crowded pack in the leadership race as the designated point man for a weeks-long attack on a budget that is as mystifying as it is unpopular.
